Deu Learning Agreement

For the mobility of students to traineeships, the apprenticeship contract should specify how learning outcomes are recognised, depending on whether they are counted in the student`s diploma, on a voluntary basis (which is not necessarily part of the diploma) or by a university graduate. Dedicated Education Units (DEUs) offer a flexible clinical learning strategy focused on founding principles and adaptation to different clinical contexts rather than a hands-on model of clinical learning. DEUs are essentially clinical environments where students develop a sense of security to explore learning opportunities because they know there are people present to ensure they don`t make persistent mistakes. People who guide and support them to achieve optimal learning. Although originally designed to train nurses, DEUs can be adapted to other professional learning environments. The apprenticeship contract must include all the learning outcomes that the student is expected to acquire during the exchange. The three parties who sign the apprenticeship contract undertake to respect all the agreed agreements and thus to ensure that the student receives recognition for the studies or internship carried out abroad without further recognition requirements. This book provides a detailed overview of the clinical learning strategy of dedicated education units (DEUs). It shows how DEUs work and explains the concept, philosophy, principles, practical implementation and first-hand experience of this revolutionary global work integrated learning strategy. It showcases the benefits of DEUs and provides insight into how DEUs can provide real-world options to solve the increasingly complex dilemma of providing more students with more hands-on experience while reducing costs and ensuring more graduates are ready to work. The book serves as a reference for the education of nursing students and is especially important for those setting up a DEU. It can be used as a springboard for work-integrated learning innovations for all practice-oriented disciplines.
